Go downtown next spring and you're sure to see stars...

Flag City plots a patriotic promotion as spruced-up stars to shine in Findlay read the article in "The Blade" July 5th 2004.
Toledo had its frogs, Maumee, its walleye. Now Findlay - known for 30 years as Flag City USA - will have its stars...

Star Gazing is a public curb art project aimed at beautifying Downtown Findlay, showcasing local artists and businesses, and involving the community in the ARTS! The Arts Partnership is working with local artists, organizations, businesses, and city officials to coordinate a curb art project similar to those undertaken in other cities around the country.

Curb art is a type of public art display that is sweeping the nation. Herds of cows have invaded Chicago. Giant ears of corn grow out of the sidewalk in Columbus. Six feet tall frogs are on the loose in Toledo. These are just a few examples of the fascinating curb art projects done by other cities. We want Findlay to be part of this public art phenomenon! This is an opportunity to showcase local artists, support tourism, and decorate the city with visual art.

We have chosen a 3-dimensional star as the shape for the fiberglass sculptures. Based on drawings by a University of Findlay student, we have chosen a specific design and are working with a fiberglass molding company to produce the stars.

The stars will be decorated by local artists, and sponsored by local businesses and individuals. The sculptures will be placed throughout downtown Findlay in the spring of 2005, and will remain on display throughout the summer of 2005. Artists and sponsor companies will be recognized on plaques attached to the base of the stars.

The Arts Partnership will hold a charity auction in the fall of 2005 to sell the stars. Sponsors will have the option to donate their stars to the charity auction, with a portion of the proceeds going to the sponsor’s charity of choice. We hope the decorated stars will attract the interest of local residents and visitors alike!
