The Arts Partnership, Findlay City Schools, Hancock County Schools and The University of Findlay are members of the Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Selected because of their demonstrated commitment to the improvement of education in and through the arts, the partnership team participates in nationally recognized collaborative efforts to make the arts integral to education. Through this program, professional development opportunities are offered to educators and pre-service educators to promote arts-infused learning in the classroom.
2011- 2012 Professional Development Workshops:
November 10, 2011 Growing Up WIld with Dr. Gwynne Rife
The Mazza Museum, The University of Findlay, 4pm to 7pm
Geared to teachers of grades 3-8.
This program, through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources,
integrates science with music, visual art and drama.
December 1, 2011 Using Drawing to encourage Creativity in the Classroom with Steve Harpster
The Mazza Museum, The University of Findlay, 4pm to 7pm
Geared to teachers of grades K-5.
This workshop will focus on integrating visual art into the curriculum
to encourage creativity and critical thinking. Teachers of primary
students will learn how to incorporate drawing into learning the ABCs
and numbers.
February 7, 2012 Shaping Students' Work through Book Making with Debra Fink Bachelder
Findlay City School TBD, 4pm to 7pm
Geared to teachers of grades 1-12.
Educators will be lead through the execution of a series of simple
book components used in basic book structures that will then be
combined to make three book forms. The artist will relate the plan-
ning and construction of the book to math skills and address specific
writing skills and assignments for book content. The artist will also
demonstrate variations of the components and provide a variety of
examples using a combination of three structures taught.
Workshop Fees
All professional development workshops are FREE to educators in Findlay City and Hancock County Schools and University of Findlay educators and pre-service educators. Cost is $10.00 for all other attendees. Payment can be made by check made payable to The Arts Partnership; do not enclose cash.
No refunds. All payments must be made prior to the scheduled workshop.
Additional Information
Attendees earn three contact hours per workshop. Light refreshments are served. All workshops are ADA accessible.
The University of Findlay offers one semester hour of graduate credit ($212) for those attending all three workshops and submitting lesson plans or a grant proposal.
