Helen Russell is a local author who has recently self-published a book for Kindle E-Books and Amazon print on demand paperback. Helen finished the book in 2001 and had been trying to find a publisher when she recently was at the dentist’s office and read an article in a magazine on self-publishing which sparked the idea to research the possibility. After printing the guidelines and reviewing them several times, she made the decision to reformat the book and plunge into the self-publishing world. Even though the changes of success for a best-seller are just as daunting, she can actually cross getting published off of her “bucket list” since it is now available worldwide.

The book is an historical romance fiction entitled, “Foreign Bride”. Helen got the idea for the book from a touching quote from a king of Babylon who wrote to the Pharaoh regarding his sister who had been sent to Egypt years before and was never seen or heard from again. What happened to this princess is anyone’s guess and is the basis for this story which is historically accurate and filled with vivid details of places and people from this time.

The main character of the book is a princess from a neighboring country to Egypt who is sent to be the bride of the son of the Pharaoh in exchange for military assistance to maintain their sovereignty, a practice quite common even through the modern century. Her life is complex and her will to carve an existence in a foreign country is the crux of the story. There are some twists and turns, some surprises and sad moments, yet she prevails and the outcome is eventually a happy one. Several pharaohs from Dynasty 12 come and go throughout her life, each one leaving an indelible impression on her. No matter what whims are placed upon her by the court of Egypt, she sets her determination and will in order to survive.

The books has received a four-star review which you can read online either at the Kindle store or through Amazon books. It is a short read, 178 pages, and the cost is $2.99 for the Kindle edition or $7.50 for the paperback. If you don’t have an Amazon account, it is easy to open one by going to Amazon.com. The Kindle edition is easily downloaded to your Kindle through the e-book program.

If you enjoy this type of book, please take the time to read the description and the review. Both offer a good idea of what the book is about.

The author has self-studied the culture of ancient Egypt for many years and travelled there in 2000 to see the timeless sights in person. She travelled for five days on the storied Nile River from Luxor to Aswan and traversed the country from the southern most regions to Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea with award willing Egyptologists travelling with the group providing on-site narration at each temple, pyramid and site. The foremost experts such as Dr. Zahi Hawass, Dr. Kent Weeks, Dr. Ray Johnson and Dr. Mark Lehner allowed unprecedented access to the Sphinx, Medinet Habu and the Valley of the Kings, as well as the workers village at the pyramids complex of Giza and several private visits to museums which gave the author a true taste of the life and times of the ancients.

Your contribution makes a difference!

During the Summer months, The Arts Partnership provides the community with fun, outdoor events such as Boogie on Main Street, Rib Off, and Riverside Wine Festival, and also The Downtown Winter Blues Festival in February. But did you know that by attending these events, you are directly helping to impact thousands of students and teachers in our area? Our Arts in Education program helps local youth and their educators to attend creative learning/teaching seminars and workshops at no cost. Here, participants can expand their horizons in an “out-of-the-box” environment that allows for further growth and experience.

Your contribution also allows our School Day Performances to be possible in the lives of our youth! Every year, The Arts Partnership provides students from area schools with the opportunity to experience live, theatrical performances, during their school day, along side their friends and peers. While entertainment costs are high, some families do not have the ability to experience live, family-friendly events. Our School Day Performances allow ALL students to be able to see a show in a fun, high energy environment that is beneficial on many levels:

Youtheatre

1,130 Elementary Students attended

Professional Development for Teachers

105 Education Professionals/Pre-Service Educators

800 Students–> In-class Sessions/Lucy Bagby Assembly

The 2012 line-up, as well as a printable registration form, can be seen on our School Day Performances page!

Who knew that attending our Summertime events could be SO impacful?
